Description
We have a 1978 J-50 Deluxe in stock!
This square shoulder period Gibson is popular among the Japanese in the midst of the folk generation.
The most notable structural features of this era are the body shape and the bracing.
The bracing, in particular, is a unique assembly with double-X bracing.
The square shoulder is said to be the result of a body style that started with the Hummingbird and spread to other models, and is considered by some to be the result of prioritizing productivity.
The top is solid spruce, sides and back are solid mahogany, the neck (fingerboard) is maple (rosewood), and the bridge is rosewood.
The sound is not only related to the body, but also to the 645mm long scale and the 3-piece maple neck, which has a strong attack, a solid mid-bass tone, and a sharpness that sometimes suits mild fingerstyle.
The condition is commensurate with its age, but it has been well maintained in our workshop and has been beautifully transformed.
There were some cracks in the binding, which are typical of the 70’s, but they have been corrected in detail and the entire instrument has been refinished.
With the exception of the pickguard, it is in shiny condition and looks as if it has been resurrected in the modern age.
The pickguard is in excellent condition, except for a few minor dings and scratches. There are some minor line scratches and small dents, but since it is all refinished, there is no damage to be concerned about.
There is a gap between the soundhole and the fretboard, but it is nothing to be concerned about.
It is thought that there is nothing to be concerned about. The neck is a 3-piece, so the seam is visible, but it is not a problem.
The truss rod has plenty of room. The bridge has been shaved to adjust the height. The frets are about 40% full. If you would like a higher fret height, we can replace it for a fee.
This piece has undergone a revival for players. In recent years, the value of the 60’s as well as the 70’s has been increasing. However, this particular piece is in first-class player’s condition, so we hope you will play it as much as you can from now on.
Please contact us in advance if you are considering purchasing or if you have any questions.
